The Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the National Court has issued a ruling ordering the Spanish Tax Agency (Hacienda) to reimburse Quique Pina the amount of 3.2 million euros. This decision is the result of a long judicial process that began in 2010 and has involved the sale of Ciudad de Murcia CF in 2007.
In that year, Quique Pina sold the club to Carlos Marsá, specifying in the sale documents that the buyer would be responsible for the tax debt that the company had. However, subsequently, the Tax Agency claimed that debt from Quique Pina and his parents, as members of the club’s board of directors. The initial debt of 1.2 million euros had increased to 3.2 million euros due to interest and penalties.
Quique Pina had always denied responsibility for this debt and had embarked on a judicial process to prove his innocence. The Audiencia Nacional has ruled in favor of Quique Pina, considering that he and his wife do not have any debt with the Tax Agency. This sentence annuls the previous sentences that obliged him to assume the debt with the Treasury and orders the return of the 3.2 million euros.
The Pina family has announced that it will appeal to the Supreme Court to review the other sentences imposed on them. Although the judicial process has been arduous, this sentence is a triumph for Quique Pina and his family, who have defended their innocence for more than 15 years.
